Pierce County is ranked #1 in the areas of:

Quality of Life

Economic Opportunity

Education and Skill

Growth

Pierce County is a special place. We're progressive, yet we are focused on families. As we grow, countless organizations, including Pierce County Economic Development, are striving to make the communities within our borders stronger for future generations.

Whether you are a Nebraska native looking to return home or are considering a move to our great state for the first time, we invite you to get to know Pierce County and Northeast Nebraska. It's special, just like you. In addition to our Quality of Life, Economic Opportunity & Diversity, Education & Skill, and Growth videos, our community tabs also feature videos that highlight Pierce, Plainview, and Osmond.

Located in Northeast Nebraska, Pierce County offers a labor force of 4,200 people and thousands more within 15 minutes of any direction. 95% of the workforce has a high school diploma and 23% has associate or bachelor's degrees.

With a solid agriculture base, Pierce County is full of hardworking individuals ready to lend a helping hand. We pride ourselves on our strong rural ties and servant characteristics that are seen in workplaces, schools, churches, and community efforts.

The 2019 Nebraska Thriving Index provides economic developers, local elected officials, and community leaders with economic and quality of life indicators so strategic, future-focused investments can be made. Pierce County is part of the North 81 region in this index, which was ranked 1st among its peers in four areas. This region performs well among its peers in terms of employment, wage and population growth, entrepreneurship, labor force participation, and quality of life. The North 81 region also ranks 2nd for Demographic Growth & Renewal and Social Capital.

We would love for you to follow along with Pierce County happenings on our Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

In the spring of 2012, the communities of Pierce, Plainview, Osmond, and Hadar came together in a meeting with commissioner Jim Maas in Osmond to discuss the future of economic development in Pierce County. In July of 2012, with funding provided by Pierce County, the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation (PCED) was formed. In August 2020, the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation was dissolved. The PCED board signed an inter-local agreement with Pierce County. This action created a new office, Pierce County Economic Development, which is now a county office. With the intent to unite the communities to serve economic growth across the county, our board of directors and the Pierce County Commissioners work closely to assist area municipalities, employers, and entrepreneurs. Our strategic goals include housing development, business development, community planning, and the promotion of Pierce County, Nebraska.
